How does Search Engine Works

The most basic thing you should know about SEO(search engine optimization) is search engine are not like human beings.
Search engines are different, different by the way websites are viewed by search engines and visitors.
In present technological era search engines cannot feel website designs nor can grab MIME types

Search engine  has a program called search engine spider also known as crawler or robot which follows or crawls the websites and mainly search for content.
Major Functions of Search Engine :-
  1. Finding Information by crawling
  2. Build an Index
  3. Provide right result by calculating relevancy

Finding Information by crawling:

We are already aware that crawler crawls the webpages and search for the content. but,  The actual process begins with the list of web addresses from past crawls and sitemaps provided by website owners, this list is also called as seeds. Search Engine Spider crawls this list  identifies all the url’s present in the web pages and add them to  list of url’s to visit also known as Crawler Frontier. And this way search engine gathers data about those webpage and store it in the server.

Build an Index :

In this step, the search engine indexes all the pages according to its content. These index pages are stored in giant search engine database from where this data can be retrieved later when needed. They are not randomly indexed, in fact the process of indexing is based on detecting the words and content of the page, particularly assigning the page to keywords.

Provide right result by calculating relevancy

when a search request is made, the words which are typed in search box are compared with the indexed pages which are stored in the database. Since database is so huge that more than one page contains the search string, search engine start calculating relevant or useful content to the search query and  rank those result as per its importance. Now the question is how search engines interpret importance ??  then the righteous answer is in search engines algorithm which calculate the best sites taking many factor into consideration and display SERP (search engine result page) for the visitor

Avoid link-drops in forums and stop hurting yourself
